Being wasteful is sadly something that has become the norm now. Close to 20mil cups, plates and other utensils are disposed of every day in the UK and US, causing a vast amount of unprocessable landfill. Tableware will likely always be a necessity, but we wouldn’t be the greatest species on earth if we couldn’t come up with some a little kinder to nature? Well one company in Richmond may now have the answer.
They have developed a complete range of biodegradable and compostable tableware that can be used in exactly the same way as ordinary products. The can be rinsed out easily and do not harbour bacteria. When disposal times comes though, rather than taking them to the dump you can get rid of them with the organic waste.
Awards have already been given to the relatively new company, who have also received praise from green charities and their regional council. The latest accolade they received was from New Visions, a non-profit organisation that helps fledging companies who have a strong ethical grounding to develop.
$2500 was included in the award and the company say it has been earmarked for new product developments. plates, bowls and serving spoons are some of the 15 pieces currency in the range. They are looking into making more utensils such a bottle opener and more detailed pieces like designer cheese knives
Jocelyn Tice who is responsible for building the company from start has suggested that she would like nothing more than to see her innovative tableware in shops all over the globe. “the benefits are simply limitless” she claimed. It will lighten the load put on waste disposal companies and will save people a lot of money and maybe even the earth.
Additional to her newest tableware concepts, Jocelyn is now researching products from various industry sectors with the hope of applying the technology there also. She has also been approached by a number of larger companies who are interested in incorporating her products into their own table and glassware
