Check the wheels are constructed from tough, heavy duty plastic so that they won’t crack if left out in cold or hot spells. In addition check that the the barbecue is fitted with wooden handles as metal handles will get too hot. A hinged grate is a good idea as this will make topping up the charcoal much easier. Some grills have an attached work surface but ensure that it’s surface is easy to clean and is made of durable material.

Charcoal grills are typically a lot cheaper than gas grills and many people like them for their traditional atmosphere. They aren’t as effortless to light as natural gas or propane grills but many people think this adds to the fun of the occasion! Cleaning out the ashes can be a messy job and they can also be more expensive to operate. However if you are only using the barbecue now and then this won’t really make much difference.

Gas barbecues may be bought that use either propane or natural gas. The best construction material is enamel finished stainless steel as it won’t rust if left outside. Check it has sturdy, welded legs for a long life. It’s preferable to purchase a grill with at least two burners which are spaced evenly apart. Two different types of systems are used, lava rocks or angled bars. We prefer angled cooking bars as the juices from the food are vapourised and increases the flavor of the food. A system using lava rocks can often cause pooling of the cooking juices which may cause flare-ups.
Some Advantages & Disadvantages of Gas Barbecues
Natural gas or propane grills are not as cheap as charcoal barbecue grills however a lot of people prefer their convenience. They are easily lit and controlling the temperature is simple. Gas barbecues are much cheaper to run than charcoal barbecues so may be cheaper in the long run. They are much easier to clean and you won’t have ashes to get rid of!
