Finding the Best Wine Opener

We’ve all been there before. A fancy dinner that you’ve invited friends over for, a good bottle of wine to pair with the food. Then it’s time to open the bottle. It can be a lot easier said then done. On some occasions you have no trouble and on others the cork breaks up and everyone is left fishing out bits of cork from their glasses.

Finding the right wine opener is entirely personal. There are some openers that almost anyone can use without any problems but everyone has a preference. It all comes down to how much money you want to pay for a wine opener and how many bells and whistles you want said opener to have.

Old School

A wine opener that is ubiquitous in restaurants, thus earning its name, is the waiter’s corkscrew. This is a wine opener that is extremely simple and serves its function and nothing more. Many people find that this is the best wine opener for them. All you need to do is screw the corkscrew into the cork and a mechanism pulls the cork out cleanly.

Many of these corkscrews come with a foil cutter to help you cut the foil on top of the bottle. The best part is that one of these models is very cheap and you can buy several for probably less than fifteen dollars or so. Great if all you’re all about function and don’t care too much about how your opener looks.

High Tech

On the other end of the scale there are also very high tech wine openers on the market. An electric wine opener needs to be plugged in and is not for anyone who needs to conserve space on the kitchen counter or cabinets. This is because an opener like this does take up quite a bit of space.

On the upside an opener like this requires next to nothing in terms of effort on your part. All you need to do is plug in the opener, put your wine bottle in place and press a button. That’s all you need to do to open your bottle of wine. This is great if you hate the part of opening a wine bottle that tests your wrist strength.

In between these two extremes there are plenty of other wine openers that will make opening a bottle of wine easier for you. If you don’t want to fork out twenty or so dollars for an electric one there are still a few manual ones out there that don’t require you to have guns of steel to use.
